Best app promo video makers in 2026

What is the best tool for making a promo video for my app?

It depends which video you need. An App Store preview, a polished screen recording, a UGC ad with an actor and a vertical clip for Reels are four different jobs, and no tool is good at all four. Below: 14 tools, what each actually costs, and what its free tier really gives you.

Pick by what you are actually making

Most "best app video" lists mix four unrelated products together and then rank them, which is how people end up paying $110 a month for an AI actor when they wanted a screen recording. Find your row first.

The 14 tools, ranked by job

  1. Best for: A postable vertical app clip made from one sentence

    Price
First video free including the download. After that credits: $9 for 100, $29 for 400. No subscription, no expiry.
    Free tier
One full video, no watermark, yours to keep

You type what the app does, drop screenshots or let it draw the screens, and get a ~12 second vertical clip built on a short-form format that already works. There is no timeline. Edits happen in chat: shorter hook, different angle, faceless. Fastest route from nothing to something you would actually post.

    • No tracks, no keyframes, no export settings
    • Works with no footage at all; it draws the screens if you have none
    • The first video downloads clean, so you can judge it on the output
    • Credits do not expire and nothing renews
    • One shape and one length: ~12s vertical. Nothing longer
    • Will not capture your real app flow frame by frame
    • New, so there is no library of other people's templates to copy
  2. Best for: The polished screen recording every launch post uses

    Price
$29/mo, or $108/yr (~$9/mo). The old one-time licence has been discontinued.
    Free tier
    Trial only

Automatic zooms and smoothed cursor motion make an ordinary recording look like someone paid for it. If your video is your product moving on a screen and you are on a Mac, this is still the default answer.

    • Output quality is the benchmark
    • Almost no editing skill required
    • Fast for a 30–90s walkthrough
    • macOS only
    • Now a subscription; the lifetime licence is gone
    • You still have to record a real flow, so your app has to exist and work
  3. Best for: Store previews without renting anything

    Price
$99 once, up to three Macs, updates included
    Free tier
    No free tier

Records your app, wraps it in a 3D device frame, and exports the formats App Store Connect accepts. Pay once. In a category where everything else bills monthly, that is the entire pitch and it is a good one.

    • One payment
    • Exports straight to Apple-accepted preview formats
    • Cursor effects and auto-zoom built in
    • macOS only
    • Nothing to try before you buy
    • It is a recorder, so you need a working build
  4. Best for: 3D device mockups that do not look like a template

    Price
One-time payment, three tiers, 6–12 months of updates. Rotato's own page confirms no monthly fee but does not print the number; third-party trackers put it in the $59–99 range.
    Free tier
    No free tier listed

The nicest device mockups you can make yourself, animated in 3D with real camera moves. It exports video but has no editor in it, so bring your own footage or screenshots.

    • One-time payment
    • Mockups look genuinely expensive
    • Huge device library
    • macOS only
    • Price is not on the pricing page
    • You still have to have something to put on the screen
  5. Best for: Template-driven store previews in a browser

    Price
    Pro $19/mo billed annually ($228/yr)
    Free tier
    Free tier with metered exports

Hundreds of ready templates for App Store and Play previews, all in the browser, no Mac required. You are working inside someone else's layout, which is exactly why it is fast and exactly why the results look familiar.

    • Runs anywhere
    • Fastest path if you have screenshots already
    • Covers stills and video from one project
    • Every export burns quota, including re-exports
    • Template look is hard to escape
    • Annual billing to get the good price
  6. Best for: Cheapest full store listing kit

    Price
    $29/mo, or $15/mo billed annually
    Free tier
    Free plan with limits

Screenshots and preview video from one place, aimed squarely at indie developers shipping a listing this week. Less polish than Previewed, less money.

    • Cheap
    • Store-size presets done for you
    • Free plan is usable for a look
    • Editor feels dated
    • Video is the weaker half of the product
    • Branding on the free tier
  7. Best for: A one-off launch with no subscription

    Price
    $6 Launch Pass (10 watermark-free exports) or $12/mo Pro
    Free tier
    3 exports a month, watermarked

Framed, animated mockups from screenshots. The $6 pass is the honest answer for someone who needs a listing done once and resents paying rent for it.

    • $6 gets you out the door
    • No install
    • Free tier exists for a look
    • Watermark on free exports
    • Narrow feature set
    • More screenshot tool than video tool
  8. Best for: Turning a product URL into ad variants to test

    Price
    Starter $39/mo (50 credits), Pro $99/mo (250 credits). A video costs roughly 2–20 credits.
    Free tier
10 credits a month, about 2 videos, and the credits expire after two months

Paste a link, it writes scripts, picks an avatar and batches out variants with performance tracking attached. Built for people running paid media.

    • Volume and variant testing
    • Large avatar library
    • 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 out of one project
    • Quality varies run to run
    • Credits expire
    • Overkill unless you are actually buying ads
  9. Best for: AI actors that read as real UGC

    Price
    Starter $110/mo for 10 videos (~$11 each), Creator $220/mo for 20
    Free tier
    None. No free trial.

The best-looking AI actors in the category: micro-expressions, natural eye movement, gestures that hold up. You pay for that and nothing else. No analytics, no ad platform integration, no free look.

    • Actor realism is the best available
    • Fast script to finished ad
    • Previewing does not spend credits
    • $110 before you have seen one output
    • Talking heads only
    • No performance tooling at all
  10. Best for: Cutting shorts out of footage you already have

    Price
Starter $15/mo (150 min, no watermark), Pro $29/mo
    Free tier
60 processing minutes a month, watermarked, and the exports expire after 3 days

Feed it a long recording and it finds the moments worth posting. Useless if you have no footage, excellent the moment you have a webinar or a walkthrough sitting in a folder.

    • Genuinely good at picking moments
    • Captions and reframing included
    • Cheap first paid tier
    • Needs existing footage
    • Free exports self-destruct in 3 days
    • Not a maker, a cutter
  11. Best for: Captions in the style people expect on Shorts

    Price
    Starter $20/mo (30 videos), Pro $40/mo (100), Agency $80/mo (300)
    Free tier
    3 videos a month, watermarked

Captions, b-roll and sound effects on top of a clip you already shot. It makes an existing video feel native to the feed. It does not make the video.

    • Caption styling is the best in class
    • Fast
    • Cheap for the volume
    • Bring your own footage
    • Watermark on free
    • Everyone's output looks the same
  12. Best for: One browser tab that does most things adequately

    Price
    Creator €22/mo (€11 billed yearly), Pro €47/mo (€23 yearly)
    Free tier
Watermarked, exports capped at 10 minutes, roughly 30 minutes of AI features a month

A competent general editor with subtitles, trimming and templates. Nothing here is aimed at app video specifically, which is the trade: it will do the job, but you are the one deciding what the video should be.

    • Runs anywhere
    • Broad feature set
    • Cheap on annual billing
    • Free tier watermarks everything
    • No app-specific formats or presets
    • Credit limits on the AI parts
  13. Best for: You are already paying for it

    Price
    Pro $15/mo
    Free tier
    Usable free tier

If Canva Pro is already on the company card, the video editor is right there and the templates are fine. Nobody chooses Canva for app video specifically, but plenty of app videos get made in it anyway.

    • Probably already paid for
    • Brand kit shared with the rest of your assets
    • Zero learning curve
    • Template look
    • No device framing worth the name
    • Not built for this
  14. Best for: When what you actually want is a clickable demo

    Price
Supademo from $38/mo. Arcade's Growth plan is $297.50/mo flat for 5 seats.
    Free tier
    Both have free tiers

Neither makes a video. They build a clickable walkthrough a prospect steps through on your site, which is what half the people searching for an app demo video actually want. Worth knowing before you spend a week rendering.

    • Higher engagement than video on a landing page
    • Editable forever without re-rendering
    • Analytics per step
    • Not postable to a social feed
    • Arcade's pricing jumped hard
    • Wrong tool if you need an App Store asset

What the free tiers actually give you

How to choose in thirty seconds

  1. Do you have footage of the app running? If no, use a generator (Mega Pudu, Creatify). If yes, use a recorder or cutter (Screen Studio, OpusClip).
  2. Is it going on a store listing? Then it must be 15–30 seconds with stereo audio for Apple, or 30–120 seconds on YouTube for Play. Pick a tool that exports those specs directly.
  3. Is it going in a feed? Then it is vertical, under 15 seconds, and the first second decides everything.
  4. Are you testing ad angles or making one video? Testing means variants and a credit budget. One video means do not sign up for a $99 plan.
  5. Do you want to stop paying when you are done? Look at the one-time tools (SmoothCapture, Rotato, Screenhance's pass) or a credit balance that does not expire.

The honest summary

If your app runs and you are on a Mac, Screen Studio plus twenty minutes still beats almost everything. If you need a store asset once and hate subscriptions, SmoothCapture at $99 is the cleanest deal in the category. If you are buying ads, Creatify for volume and Arcads for the hero creative. If you need a vertical clip today from a description, without opening an editor, that is the gap we built Mega Pudu for. The first one is free, so you can check.

Make one and see. First video is free, no subscription.

Questions people ask

What is the cheapest way to make an app promo video?

Free, if you accept a watermark. OpusClip, Submagic and VEED all export watermarked video at no cost. For a clean file with no watermark and no subscription, the cheapest options are Mega Pudu's free first video, Screenhance's $6 launch pass, or a one-time purchase like SmoothCapture at $99. Agencies average $2,528 for a 30-second app preview.

Do free app video makers put a watermark on the export?

Almost all of them, yes. Of the tools checked in July 2026, OpusClip, Submagic, Creatify, VEED, Screenhance and Screen Studio all watermark free or trial exports. OpusClip also expires free exports after three days. The exceptions are tools that give you a limited number of clean exports instead of unlimited watermarked ones.

How long should an app promo video be?

For the App Store, 15 to 30 seconds. Apple rejects anything outside that. For Google Play, 30 to 120 seconds, hosted on YouTube. For a social feed, 8 to 15 seconds, with the hook in the first second. For a landing page, under 60 seconds. If your video is over a minute, you are almost certainly showing too much.

Can I make an app promo video without recording my app?

Yes. Generators like Mega Pudu and Creatify build the screens from a description or a product URL, so you can make the video before the app is finished. That is also how people test whether an idea lands before building it. If you want the real flow on screen frame by frame, you need a recorder like Screen Studio and a working build.

What size should an app promo video be?

Vertical 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, where 1080x1920 is safe. For an App Store preview, Apple accepts 886x1920 portrait on current iPhone sizes and 1080x1920 on older ones, H.264 or ProRes 422 HQ, under 500MB, 30fps maximum, with stereo audio required.

Is an app preview video worth making at all?

Usually, if it is good. A/B tests reported by SplitMetrics, StoreMaven and others put a strong preview video at roughly +15% to +30% on install conversion, and one StoreMaven test found +47% once iOS started autoplaying previews. The same guides report a weak video costing 10-15% against having no video at all, so the downside is real.
